YPFA — Wing-Type Direct-Drive Centrifugal Plug Fan

The largest central AHUs are the hardest to size: they must move a very big volume of air against pressure stacked from filters, coils, fire dampers and long duct runs. Known as the YPFA, this wing-type direct-drive centrifugal plug fan is Midi Industrial's answer for that top end - an unhoused cartridge built for central air-conditioning systems that push up to 180,000 m3/h at pressures reaching 2,500 Pa.

The wheel and drive line

The wing-type airfoil wheel is where the volume and pressure come from together: the blade profile manages the airstream across a wide flow range, and at the high-pressure end it stays calmer than a flat or forward-curved wheel would. Direct drive couples motor to impeller with no belt train, which matters on a fan of this size - belts on a large wheel are bulky, heavy to tension and quick to wear. The cartridge mounts on slide rails inside the AHU section and withdraws as one piece for servicing. Mounting structure and rail rating deserve attention at these dimensions, since a 1,400 mm wheel on a direct motor carries real weight.

Where it shows up
Expect the YPFA in large central air-conditioning handlers, high-capacity fresh-air units and ventilation systems serving malls, airports, stadiums and industrial facilities. It is the airfoil, higher-pressure member of the Midi Industrial plug fan lineup; projects that need its 2,500 Pa ceiling usually have dense filters or long ductwork behind that value. HVAC fan manufacturers and main contractors send system airflow and resistance data, and the size and motor are matched from the 280-1,400 mm model range for the central AC plant.
